Latest news on new recruits
On 19-21 March we ran another assessment for new dogs and handlers. This was held at Kingshouse Hotel, Glencoe and involved a gruelling three days of searching across moorland and mountain areas. Two new dogs qualified as “novice” grade search dogs and two novice dogs achieved “full” search dog status. We now have 24 search dogs available on call any time anywhere. Congratulations to Mike Walker and “Drum” and Stu McIntyre and “Nell” for “novice” dog status; Roland Jones and “Coby” and Tony Hanly and “Cuillin” for “full” dog status.
 Congratulations to Mike Walker and “Drum”, who won the Shield for best novice dog of the assessment! However, it was also sad to see John Easton retire. John has been a dog handler for many years. He has inspired so many handlers and has a wealth of experience. We wish him well in retirement, but look forward to seeing him still helping out with the dogs in training and bodying!
We were delighted to be joined by representatives from two of our supporters: Richard and Julie Waller from Order of St John and Marlene, Michelle and David from Burns Pet Nutrition. Our thanks go to Julie for presenting the certificates to the qualifying handlers.
We are also grateful to four external assessors who came from SARDA Ireland, SARDA Lakes, SARDA England and SARDA Southern, who assisted us in assessing these dogs.
