Training 12 – 14 October 2012

This weekend we trained at Kintail- our thanks go to the National Trust for Scotland for allowing us to train on their land.  This is the start of the big build up for those novice handlers hoping to be assessed at the annual assessment course in March 2013.  The terrain is now more demanding and the search areas are larger. Light winds on Saturday made it harder still – a good test for aspirant handlers.

The training of six new dogs continues.  As well as four experienced handlers, there are two new handlers: Alasdair from Kintail and Raymond from Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Teams.  We also welcomed Earle from Tayside Mountain Rescue, who is interested in training a dog and who came along to see what it is all about.

On Sunday we trained with the Coastguard helicopter.  They gave us our important safety briefing and followed this with practice winching.  Thank you guys for your time and support!

Finally, as the weather gets colder we spent time ensuring the equipment for winter conditions is fit and ready.  Stay safe out there!
